Yuwú

Some places are most valuable for what we choose to preserve.

Yuwú is a 218-hectare tropical forest that is part of our family’s history in Colombia.

It is a place where nature has built, over far more time than we can grasp, an extraordinary web of relationships between trees, animals, microorganisms, water and soil.

Yuwú starts from a question: can we build an economic model in which conserving a forest makes as much sense as transforming the land to produce?

We want this land to stay protected, and we want its conservation to create opportunities for research, knowledge, education and the communities around it.

We are interested in exploring mechanisms that can fund its protection over the long term, so that its survival does not depend solely on the goodwill of those who look after it.

For us, Yuwú is not the opposite of Ganadería San Juan. It is its natural complement.

One challenges us to discover how much value we can create by working with nature. The other reminds us how much value exists in what we decide not to touch.

Both are part of the same search: reconciling human prosperity with the living systems that make it possible.
